Obituary

Alice L. Madden, age 79, a Manitowoc resident, passed away Friday, August 5, 2022 at her home.

She was born January 19, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late Bernard and Lorrene (Rosengren) Greiner. Alice attended Gibraltar High School, graduating with the class of 1961. Following high school, she attended the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, graduating with a teaching degree. Alice taught in Green Bay, New Berlin, Menomonee Falls, Colorado Springs, Oconto Falls, Kewaunee, and Manitowoc Head Start. On August 3, 1968, she married William "Bill" Madden at St. Mary Catholic Church, Waukesha. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2018. Alice enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting, fish keeping, homemaking, and cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers. She also loved the numerous pets she had over the years. Alice also was involved in various programs for education development for young children. Above all, she loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Alice is survived by her daughter: Dr. Angela L. Madden-Heinzen (Joseph Heinzen), Manitowoc; her son: Dr. James D. (Dr. Jennifer) Madden II, Atchison, KS; eight grandchildren: Cpl. William E. Madden II, Martha E. Madden, James Patrick Madden, Brendan J. Madden, John "Jack" D. Madden, Cormac M. Madden, Anna K. Heinzen and Benjamin C. Heinzen; one brother: Kurt (Bonnie) Greiner, Green Bay; two sisters: Margret "Gretchen" Mader, Nevada, and Sally (Jack) Rosenthal, Oshkosh; one brother-in-law: Michael J. (Annette) Madden, Pasadena, CA; one sister-in-law: Peggy (Jim) Nettesheim, Menomonee Falls; and special friends: James and Joan Dolan, Manitowoc. She was preceded in death by her parents: Bernard Greiner and Lorrene Greiner-beard; four siblings: Arthur Greiner, Anna Crowe, Alair Peck, and Bernita Larson; and her sister-in-law: Mary Jo (Ken) Janson.

Cremation has occurred at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory and private family services will be held at a later date. Alice will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
