Barbara Ellen Thompson, age 74, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.
Barbara was born August 2, 1938 in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. She was the daughter of the late Delphin and Edith Sullivan Tietz. She attended school in Sauk Rapids and Waite Park, Minnesota and furthered her education at McKinley and St. Cloud High School graduating with the class of 1955. She then became employed with Franklin Manufacturing in St. Cloud, Minnesota. In 1977 she moved to Two Rivers and was employed with Manitowoc Engineering from 1978 until she retired in 1998. On December 30, 1956 she married John J. Thompson at Methodist Church in Waite Park, Minnesota. He preceded her in death on December 18, 2003.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Bob J. and Kim Thompson, Whitelaw, WI; Barry C. and Michelle Thompson, Mishicot, WI; one daughter: Lynn L. Szydel, Manitowoc, WI; five grandchildren: Briana Timreck, Leighton Thompson, Corbin Szydel, Ciara Szydel and Dallas Ploeckelman; one great grandchild: Julian Timreck; one sister: Gaylene Striet, St. Cloud, MN; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Delphin and Edith Tietz; husband: John J. Thompson; two brothers: Robert Tietz and Steven Walkley; one brother-in-law: Arnold Striet.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Thomas Dunham with entombment to take place at Knollwood Mausoleum. Immediately following the funeral services a luncheon will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home. There will be a visitation for relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Friday, August 24, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and also at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 10:30.
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
