Benno W. Steuer, age 90, a long-time resident of Branch, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016.
Born May 24, 1926 in Fessenden, ND, Benno and his family moved to Manitowoc County in the early 1930's. He graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1944. Benno enlisted with the United States Navy in 1943 and served his country until his honorable discharge. On June 24, 1948, Benno married Ruth Ann Kaderabek in Manitowoc. He was employed by Wisconsin Bell / AT&T as a Telephone Lineman and Repairman for 38 years, until his retirement in 1985. Benno also farmed his entire life. He enjoyed raising and caring for all kinds of livestock, with a special fondness for horses. Benno was generous with both his time and energies, being active with many local boards and organizations. He served on the Manitowoc County Expo, Manitowoc Rapids Town and Branch School Boards. He was a project leader for the Manitowoc 4H Branch Busy Bees, a Branch Youth Baseball Coach, member of the Branch Fire Department, and one of the original founders of the Branch Area Community Park. Benno enjoyed spending his time woodworking, playing and coaching baseball, softball, riding horses, operating pony "rings" at local community picnics with his wife "Dottie", playing Sheepshead, and attending his children's and grandchildren's events.
Survivors include Benno's wife of 68 years: Dottie; their five children: Jim (Kay) Steuer, Branch; Jeff (Amy) Steuer, Madison; Nancy (Keith) Keil, Scottsdale, AZ; Jayne (Kurt) Birkholz, Elkhart Lake; and Jon Steuer, LaCrosse; 10 grandchildren: Jay (Holly) Steuer, Katie (Adam) Meyers, Casey, Beth, and Kate Steuer, Matt and Erika Keil, Will Birkholz, Meg and Caroline Steuer; as well as other relatives and friends. Benno was preceded in death by his parents: Wilhelm and Augusta Klempel Steuer; and a brother: Ernst Steuer.
A service of shared thoughts by family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. The family will greet relatives and friends from Noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, located adjacent to the funeral home.
