Obituary

Bernadine "Bernie" Eck, age 87, a resident of 1314 Ahrens Street, Manitowoc entered into eternal life on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc.

Bernie was born on August 28, 1923 in Bethlehem, PA to the late Joseph and Theresa Monshein Seidenberger. She graduated from Bethlehem Catholic High School in 1941. After graduating from Bethlehem Business College she was employed by Lehigh University where she edited the Lehigh Alumni Bulletin. On January 25, 1947, Bernie married Robert Eck and shortly after they moved to Manitowoc. Bernie was an avid bridge player, an excellent baker, an enthusiastic gardener, and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother with a fabulous sense of humor. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, the St. Clare Society, and the Junior Service League.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years: Bob; three children: Sandra (Dr. Howard Klein) Eck Newman, Bangor, PA; Philip (Cathy) Eck, Maribel; and David (Lynn) Eck, Manitowoc; five grandchildren: Kiley (Aaron) Hayon, Manitowoc; Jessie Eck, Denver, CO; Robyn Eck, Denver, CO; Tyler (Stacey) Eck, Manitowoc; and Kristin Eck and her fiancée Tony Maurer, Fitchburg; two great grandchildren: Preston and Landen Hayon; two brothers: Robert (Lucille) Seidenberger, Hellertown, PA; and Donald (Doris) Seidenberger, Bethlehem, PA; one sister: Joan (Curtis) Thieme, Bethlehem, PA; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bernie was preceded in death by one sister: Pauline Walker; and two brothers: Thomas and Joseph Seidenberger.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo from 10 am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. The Rev. Dan Viertel will officiate with a private burial at Evergreen Cemetery.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, N. 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any memorials to be sent to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Manitowoc.
