Bernice A. Mason, age 76, a resident of Manitowoc, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2026 at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.
Bernice was born on May 5, 1950 in Two Rivers to the late Arthur and Josephine (Hutchison) Klein.
There are some people who walk into a room and instantly change it — not because they’re loud, not because they’re trying, but because their presence is just that strong. Bernice was one of those people. She had a way of making you feel seen, heard, and, whether you liked it or not, told exactly what you needed to hear.
Bernice lived her life with a rare mix of honesty and heart. She didn’t sugarcoat anything — she didn’t know how to. If she loved you, you knew it. If she was annoyed with you, well… you knew that too. And somehow, even her middle‑finger moments came wrapped in love. That was her magic. She could tease you, challenge you, and comfort you all in the same breath.
Family was her anchor. Her happiest moments were the simple ones — sitting around a table, cards in hand, laughing so hard she had to wipe her eyes. Uno games with her weren’t just games; they were battles, traditions, memories stitched into the fabric of every recent holiday. She was the kind of woman who’d help in the kitchen, tell a story that made everyone stop and listen, and then throw down a card that changed the whole game.
She worked hard her whole life, and she loved deeply her whole life. And when she finally got to see the ocean — something she’d dreamed about for years — it wasn’t just a trip. It was a moment of joy she carried with her, a reminder that even lifelong dreams can come true. Special thanks to Karen Klein for making that dream her reality.
Bernice wasn’t perfect, and she never pretended to be. She was real. She was loyal. She was tough in all the right ways and soft in all the right places. She gave advice that stuck with you. She listened when you needed it. She showed up when it mattered.
And she leaves behind a family who adored her — KatieJo, Chris, Maez, Lillyan, Cyrus — and so many others who will carry her stories, her humor, and her love forward.
Bernice lived boldly. She loved fiercely. And she leaves a legacy of laughter, honesty, and unforgettable moments. She was one of a kind, and the world is a little quieter without her — but the memories she made will keep her voice alive for a long, long time.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Josephine Klein; five brothers; two sisters; her nephew and “partner in crime” Jeff Klein; and her favorite nephew — who was more like a brother — Butch Ruelle.
