Bernice A. Schwalbe, age 73, a Manitowoc resident, entered eternal life on Monday afternoon, October 3, 2016 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center in Sheboygan Falls.
Bernice was born on March 7, 1943 in Manitowoc. She was the daughter of the late Ervin and Margaret Gohr Lubus. Bernice attended Oconto High School and graduated with the class of 1961. She had been employed at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center and Affairs to Remember. On October 28, 1967 she married Gary J. Schwalbe at First German Ev. Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on December 6, 1997. Bernice was a member of Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards with her card clubs, sewing, traveling, decorating in her home, beautifying her yard with flowers and maintaining her home. Bernice cherished time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Jason and Becky Schwalbe, Madison; brothers and sister: Elaine Smith, Manitowoc; Daniel (Donna) Lubus, Oconto; Roger Lubus, Oconto; brother-in-law: Daniel Zachek, Two Rivers; sister-in-law: Carolyn (Wayne) Avery, Milwaukee; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Ervin and Margaret Lubus; husband: Gary; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Audrey and Edward Wegner and Carol Zachek; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Kermit and Laura Schwalbe.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2016 at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Kujawski and Rev. Stephen Melso with burial to take place and Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church on Friday, October 7, 2016 from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.
