Obituary

Beth J. Barfield, age 85, of 1036 33rd Street, Two Rivers, entered eternal life on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 in Manitowoc.

Beth was born on November 22, 1930 in Baraboo. She was the daughter of the late William and Elsie Borders Barfield. Beth was a graduate of Baraboo High School with the class of 1948. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee where she received her Bachelors of Art Degree in Education in 1970 and her Masters Degree in Social Welfare in 1972. In 1948 she married Jacob Groeschel in Baraboo. He preceded her in death March 2010. Beth retired at the age of 80 from social work as a therapist. She was an avid folk dancer for over 40 years in Milwaukee and Manitowoc. Beth was a lifelong humorist from cartoons in high school newspaper and year book to comedy routines in more recent years. She was a lifelong artist working in oils, acrylic, and water colors and photography. Beth shared her talents as a volunteer in Milwaukee and Manitowoc and also with the Peace Corps in Romania at the age of 64. She also dabbled in murder mystery writing. Beth was always interested in the latest fashion starting in high school when she and her sister Elsie would copy the clothes they saw in Vogue Magazine. She had a knack for putting together fashion.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Brian and Lilly Groeschel, Manitowoc; two daughters and sons-in-law: Lynn Groeschel and Steve Kaczecka, Wisconsin Dells; Julie Groeschel and Al Grund, Manitowoc; grandchildren: A. J. Grund and his fiancée Maggie Kingman; Sam Grund; one nephew: Rick Smith; along with other relatives and many special friends which include Amelia, Mike, Barb, Betty, and Karen in Milwaukee; Kay, Ceil, Judi, and Linda in Manitowoc; Sharon in Baraboo; and Elisabeta in Romania. She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Elsie Barfield; one sister: Elsie Mae Robbins; one brother: Vinson Barfield.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016 at The Lakeshore Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 620 Park Street, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Lay Minister Linda Hunter. There will be a visitation for relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on THURSDAY, June 9, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The visitation will continue at The Lakeshore Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on SATURDAY, June 11, 2016 from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel.
