Beth Alyce (Brown) Satchell
Beth Alyce (Brown) Satchell, 78, of Manitowoc, WI, loving mother, grandmother, and wife, died Sunday, February 15, 2026, at New Perspective Senior Living in Franklin, WI, from complications related to liver cancer.
She was born on September 2, 1947, in Alma, MI, to Charles Ralph Brown and Marion (Walker) Brown, and grew up in St. Louis, MI. As a young girl, she could often be found at her mother’s side assisting in the kitchen, baking a household record number of brownies and spice cakes. She was very active growing up: singing, tap dancing, skating, piano lessons, cheerleading, band, and debate club were all activities she enjoyed, but it was swimming that Beth loved most, and she eventually realized her ultimate summertime dream of spending all her time at the poolside when she became certified as a lifeguard for the local public pool.
She attended St. Louis High School through her sophomore year before moving to Mt. Pleasant, MI, where she graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1965. Beth went on to study at the University of Michigan, graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). In 1993, while also raising four children, she returned to school obtaining a dual master’s in nursing (MSN-NP): Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator, from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Eta Pi Chapter.
Beth met her (late) husband, David Allan Satchell, M.D., during move-in day her freshman year at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where they both attended as undergraduates. A pre-med student, David was an avid photographer, and Beth soon became his beautiful muse. They wed in 1969, then spent the next couple of years in the Detroit area, while David finished medical school, before heading to the Pacific Northwest (Spokane and Seattle, WA) so David could finish his medical internship and residencies. One of Beth’s favorite memories included camping in Glacier National Park with David as young newlyweds. Washington was also where they started their young family. In 1976, David joined Manitowoc Surgical Associates, and they moved to Manitowoc and continued growing their family.
Beth’s desire to be a nurse was unwavering; from an early age, she was destined for a compassionate occupation. Starting with Girl Scout Brownies and 4-H, and then later in life, acting as a lifelong medical consultant to her family and friends, Beth was always “on call” to serve others in need. Across Michigan, Washington, and Wisconsin, her career development focused on instructing and supervising nurses while eventually providing preventative care as a Nurse Practitioner. She eventually settled into the role of Director of the Health Check Clinic in Manitowoc.
As committed as she was to nursing, Beth was equally committed to serving her community. She provided health screenings to the Manitowoc Public Schools and served on their Guidance and Counseling Advisory committee. She worked on the Head Start Health Services Advisory, advocated as co-chairperson on the Dental Health Improvement Committee, and sat on the Human Resources Council. She also served as President, Treasurer, and local Co-Chairperson of the National Health Study for League of Women Voters of Manitowoc County.
Beth is survived by her children: Jeremy (Janet Glasser) of Wenham, MA, Todd of Two Rivers, WI, Amanda Satchell (Mark Sheremeta) of West Allis, WI and Erin Yuen (Michael) of Adrian, MI. Other surviving family includes her sisters, Shelley Harrison (Les) of Glendale, CA and Lisa Brown (Steve) of San Mateo, CA; grandchildren, Ryan Melanson of Wenham, MA; Alex Sheremeta of Madison, WI, Mikayla Sheremeta of West Allis, WI; Christopher Yuen (Ashton) of Mesa, AZ, Hallie Yuen, Kai Yuen and Wylie S. Yuen of Adrian, MI; great grandson Shiloh Yuen of Mesa, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. Beth was preceded in death by husband, David Allan Satchell, M.D.; brother, Charles Ralph Brown III, M.D. (“Pete”); parents, Charles Ralph Brown and Marion Jean (Walker) Brown; maternal grandparents, Charles Edward Walker and Jane (Clark) Walker of Marlette Township, MI; and paternal grandparents, Charles Ezra Brown and Fern (Coleman) Brown of Alma, MI.
A Celebration of Life and general gathering to honor Beth is planned for Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 2-5 PM at Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 North Water St., Manitowoc, WI 54220, with a remembrance ceremony happening at 3 PM. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc.
