Betty J. Thompson, age 84, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc.
Betty was born on April 13, 1934 in Two Rivers. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Elsie Shiman Yelmene. Betty was a graduate of Murray High School in Milwaukee. She was employed at Eaton Cutler Hammer in Milwaukee for 47 years until her retirement in 1997. In November 1954 she married Robert W. Thompson in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on February 9, 1996. Betty was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and a longtime member of the Widows Club and enjoyed being the life of the party. In her retirement, Betty hosted sight-seeing trips for the Manitowoc Senior Center.
She is survived by one brother: John Yelmene, Neenah; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Edward and Elsie Yelmene; husband: Robert; three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo, 1121 North 14 th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dave Pleier. Entombment will take place at Forest Hill Memorial Park in Oak Creek. Relatives and friends may call at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Following the funeral services there will be a luncheon for relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 North Water Street, Manitowoc, located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
The family would like to convey special thanks to Dr. Mark Herring and his staff for their friendship and unparalleled devotion to Betty.
