Brent “Uncle” W. Van Wert, age 58, a resident of Manitowoc, and formerly of Milwaukee, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah.

Uncle was born on July 15, 1968 in Minnesota to the late Sylvester and Nancy (Kargess) Van Wert. He graduated from John Marshall High School in Milwaukee with the class of 1986. Uncle was a very talented cook – both on the job and at home. He had worked at various award winning restaurants, including Heinemann’s Restaurant, Jack’s American Pub, and Ca’Lucchenzo - all in Milwaukee. Due to health issues, Uncle retired from Angelus Assisted Living in Manitowoc. Uncle was a huge movie fan and loved old school cinema, with his favorite being “The Thing from Another World”. He enjoyed playing cribbage, listening to a wide variety of music, and shooting at the local range. Above all, he enjoyed spending his time with his family, including belated fur family, Shadow.

Survivors include his nephew, Cody Keller, Manitowoc; niece, Valerie Moon, Menasha; also other relatives and friends, including those at White Earth Nation Reservation in northwestern Minnesota. Brent was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Nancy Van Wert; and brother, William “Billy” J. Van Wert.
