Obituary

Carl J. "Charlie" Sasse, age 95, of 1911 Wild Oak Drive, Manitowoc, entered eternal life Wednesday morning, June 22, 2011 at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center in Manitowoc where he had been residing for the past thirteen days.

Carl was born October 28, 1915 in Gaslyn, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late Carl and Ida Patzwald Sasse. Charlie was a graduate of West Milwaukee High School. In December 1934 he married Gladys Swiantczak in Eagle, Wisconsin. On April 7, 1945 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served overseas in Japan during World War II. After his honorable discharge on August 15, 1946 he returned to West Milwaukee and became employed with the West Milwaukee Police Department from where he retired in 1972 as a detective sergeant. Charlie was a member of the Webster Lions Club and was also a member and past post commander of the American Legion Post in Webster, Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife of 76 years: Gladys; three daughters and sons-in-law: Alice and Jerry Seibel, Manitowoc; Monica and John Ford, Campbellsport, WI; Pauline "Bonnie" and Frederick Brokaski, Goleta, CA; ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one great grandson and two sisters.

There will be a private memorial gathering for the family to be held at a later date. Cremation will take place and burial of the cremated remains will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spooner, Wisconsin with military graveside rites accorded.
