Charles "Chuck"
Christel
July 10, 1929 – October 20, 2024
Chuck Christel, age 95, entered eternal life on Oct. 20, 2024.
He was the son of Norbert and Esther (Mallmann) Christel. Chuck attended Valders High School. He served in the United States Navy in Guam from 1948-1952 as a medic. He liked to joke that he had never been on a ship. After being honorably discharged, he returned home and attended Spencerian Business College, Milwaukee. Chuck was then employed with Lakeside Machine Shop where he did accounting work until his retirement in 1991. On July 19, 1958, he married Lenore (Hunsader). She preceded him in death on May 1, 2022. He was also especially close to his cousin, the late Emily (Kletzien) Underberg.
Chuck was an avid golfer and achieved his dream of a hole-in-one at the age of 89. He had a keen wit and loved to tell jokes to anyone who would listen. He loved polkas and he and Lenore enjoyed traveling.
Chuck is survived by his three children: Judy (Chuck) Stangel, Peter Christel, and Jean Christel, three grandchildren: Erin (Jim) Spencer, Kelsey (Zach) Buehl, Matthew (Bridget Suda) Stangel, and five great-grandchildren. His brother, Don Christel, lives in The Villages, FL.
Chuck's family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Manitowoc Health and Rehab, the hospice staff and volunteers at Sharon Richardson Hospice, Manitowoc Home Care, and very special friends Ken and Mary Schuh.
