Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Emmett Gilmore, age 69, a resident of Manitowoc, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022.

Charlie was born on May 25, 1953 to the late Clinton and Marcella (Ludwig) Gilmore.  He graduated from St. Boniface Catholic Grade School, Lincoln High School with the class of 1971, and later graduated with honors from Lakeshore Technical Institute where he obtained his Associate Degree in Applied Arts in Business Marketing.  Charlie worked at various taverns and eating establishments as a bartender over the years.  He made many friends along the way.  Charlie also worked at Hamilton Industries in Two Rivers.

He had a great love of music.  Charlie was a jazz fan and a big fan of the Beatles.  Charlie's home was filled with jazz musician photos and a lot of Beatles memorabilia.  He loved the color green and was proud of his Irish heritage.  Charlie had a passion for cooking.  He would watch cooking shows and was always looking for recipes to try.  Charlie loved watching old black and white movies and TV shows – sometimes alone, and sometimes with a good friend.  He collected magnets.  With the help of his friends, he had magnets from all over the United States and other countries. Whenever his friends and family would go on vacation, they would always bring some home for him.  He enjoyed getting their postcards from whatever destination they had gone to.  Charlie was also an avid reader who had a huge collection of hard covered books.

Charlie was very proud of his accomplishment of 13 years of sobriety.  Charlie went through a tough period in his life, but he persevered and came out a better person.  He liked the simple things in life - getting together with a friend to go to lunch or just sitting, talking about life and enjoying their company.  He liked going to concerts in the park and just sit and listen to the music.  He loved anytime he was able to get together with his daughter Madde and treasured holidays he was able to spend with his family.  Just being around them and listening to how their lives were going put a smile on his face.  He also had a fantastic group of friends.  There were those that were there for him when he needed them the most.  They came with no questions asked.  His family is very grateful for all of those people that touched Charlie's life.

Survivors include Charlie's daughter, Madde Gilmore; brother, Tom (Susan) Gilmore; sister, Kathy (Al) Szymczyk; mother of his daughter, Marcia Maylander, all of Manitowoc; also cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Marcella Gilmore.
