Charles Richard "Dick" Barney, age 88, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 24, 2023 at St. Mary's Home in Manitowoc, WI surrounded by family. He was born June 7, 1935 in Battle Creek, Michigan, son of the late Ross and Helena (Croose) Barney.

Dick graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1953 where he was a drummer in the band, a member of the tennis team and class president. He then attended Michigan State University, graduating in 1957 with a degree in accounting. While attending MSU, he enlisted in ROTC and proudly served his country with the United States Army and Army Reserves for eight years. On August 15, 1958 he married Grace Nightingale, his junior high sweetheart, at the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek and they later had two children, Rick and Patty.

Dick's professional career began at Ford Motor Company in Detroit where he worked as an internal auditor. He held various positions with different companies and ended his career in 2000 as the President of Miner Industries in St. Charles, Illinois. Dick and Grace retired to Florida and frequently traveled to Wisconsin to visit their grandchildren. Grace died unexpectedly on October 5, 2003. Despite this loss, Dick found ways to stay active. He remained an avid tennis player, playing 4 or 5 times a week well into his 80's. He enjoyed music throughout his life and could often be found singing, whistling, playing the piano or ukulele and frequently joined the drumming circle at Nokomis Beach. He will be remembered for his outgoing and fun-loving personality and his ability to have a joke for every occasion. Years after Grace's passing, Dick found his second love in Wilma Hoyer and they enjoyed 12 wonderful years together.

Dick is survived by two children, Rick (Stephanie) Barney of Minnesota and Florida, and Patty (Bob) Greene of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, three grandchildren: Christina Greene (fiance Kevin) of Minnesota, Sarah Greene of Minnesota, and Katie Greene of Wisconsin; and Wilma Hoyer of Venice, Florida. Brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Barney, and his parents, Ross and Helena Barney.

Cremation has occurred at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory, Manitowoc, and services will be held at a later date. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
