Daniel Hessel, age 84, a resident at Felician Village, Manitowoc, formerly of 4726 Hessel Court, Manitowoc, entered eternal life early Sunday morning, July 18, 2010, at
River's Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.
Daniel was born on March 7, 1926, in Manitowoc. He was the son of the late Reinhardt and Louise (Kolicek) Hessel. Daniel was a graduate of Lincoln High School with the class of 1944. After graduation Daniel entered the United States Army Air Corps. He then continued his education at Marquette University in Milwaukee receiving his B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering. After working for 3 years in Chicago, Illinois, Daniel and his wife moved to Manitowoc. He then became employed for 11 years with Manitowoc Shipbuilding. Daniel later became employed with Holophane Inc. in sales in the northeast part of Wisconsin and upper Michigan. In the early 1960's he entered into a partnership with John K. Primm. In the 1970's, Daniel became self employed owning and operating PRIMANCO Inc. from where he retired in 2002. On January 11, 1946, he married Ione Klein in Milwaukee. She preceded him in death on January 1, 2000. Daniel was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whitelaw. He was very active in his church serving as treasurer, bookkeeper and trustee for many years.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Steven and Eileen Hessel, Stevens Point, WI; 2 granddaughters: Kimberli Hessel and Lisa Hessel; 1 sister: Ruth Kinzel, Manitowoc, WI; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife: the former Ione Klein on January 1, 2000; 1 brother: Russ Hessel; 2 sisters: Grace Wernecke Hessel and Gladys Wilhelm.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2010, at 11:00 am at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Whitelaw. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Timothy McDonnell from Vienna, Austria. Burial of the cremated remains will follow at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Whitelaw. Relatives and friends may call at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am.
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staffs of Holy Family Memorial Medical Center and River's Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center for the care they provided to Daniel.
In lieu of flower, the family would request that any memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
