Darlene M. Balliew, age 75, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at her residence.
Darlene was born on November 4, 1941 to the late George and Mary Burich Kanter. She graduated from Valders High School with the class of 1960, and then pursued a nursing career in Chicago, IL. For several years, Darlene had worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chicago as a baby nurse. She later moved back to Manitowoc and was employed at Mirro Aluminum for over 30 years until her retirement in 2003. Darlene enjoyed shopping for bargains year round for Christmas gifts and was well known for her famous meatballs.
Survivors include Darlene's two daughters, Anne (Alan) Kubichka, Rockwood, and Patty (Tim) Robley, Manitowoc; five grandchildren, Rachel (Andy), Ryan and Rena Balliew, and Kylie and Jacy Robley; five great grandsons, Damian, Dillen, Roque, Jovanni, and Easton; 10 siblings, Dennis (Lila) Kanter, Kaukauna, Darwin (Robin) Kanter, Fence, Dianne Carmody, Reedsville, Danette Kanter, Manitowoc, Daniel (Shirley) Kanter, Reedsville, Dean (Jane) Kanter, Grimms, Denise (Mike) Weber, Manitowoc, Dori Kanter, Manitowoc, Debbie (Tim) Karl, Reedsville, and Dorothy (Patrick) Fitzgerald, Manitowoc; sister-in-law, Joan Kanter, Reedsville; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Kanter; sister and brother-in-law, Delores (Jerome) Moller; brother, Donald Kanter; and granddaughter, Melinda McNeil.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall – 1114 South 21st Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dave Beaudry with burial of Darlene's cremated remains to take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Reedsville. Following the memorial service, a luncheon will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com
