Darlene M. Vogel

Darlene M. Vogel, age 80, a former resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Woodside Lutheran Home in Green Bay.

Darlene was born on August 16, 1946 to the late Alden and Ardelle (Rosenthal) Voland. She grew up on the family dairy farm in the Township of Mosel. At the age of 2, Darlene became sick with meningitis, and lost her hearing as a consequence of the severity of her illness. She participated in all aspects of the Voland family farm, including participation in the Sheboygan County 4H Club, where she competed in Holstein Showmanship. Darlene eventually won 2 blue ribbons at the Wisconsin State Fair at 15 years old. For that Darlene’s story was featured in the Milwaukee Setinel newspaper for being a deaf person who was able to follow the judges directions by watching their hand gestures. She first attended Howe School in Green Bay and later switched to her hometown school. She graduated from Howards Grove High School with the class of 1967. After high school Darlene worked at Millersville Box Company. In 1968, Darlene then married Richard L. Vogel. He preceded her in death on November 5, 2008.

In addition to her strong farming background and showing cattle through her 4H Club, Darlene enjoyed working with plants and flowers in her spare time. She also enjoyed seasonal crafting projects. Above all, Darlene was always a devoted and compassionate wife, mother, sister, daughter and aunt. She always stayed connected to her family and friends. Darlene was the classic “social butterfly” as she loved to catch up with friends, family and neighbors as well as making new friendships. It was a rare day to catch Darlene without a smile on her face and she always had something that she wanted to talk with you about. Despite suffering a stroke years earlier, she continued to reside at her home until 2013 before moving to Woodside Lutheran Home in Green Bay.

Survivors include Darlene’s children, Lisa (Chris) Hynek and Troy (Tabitha Chizek) Vogel; sister, Laurie Moyer; also other relatives and friends. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Alden and Ardelle Voland; husband, Richard; two brothers, Alden Jr. and Randy; and nephew, Randall Moyer.
