Obituary

David W. Korte, age 65, a resident in the town of Manitowoc Rapids, entered eternal life on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the Aurora Bay Care Medical Center, Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Dave was born on November 19, 1949 in Manitowoc. He was the son of Delores Schrank Korte and the late Kenneth E. Korte. Dave attended First German Ev. Lutheran Grade School and then continued his education at Manitowoc Lutheran High School. During high school Dave was an accomplished athlete in football, basketball, and baseball. Following high school he attended classes at Lakeshore Technical College. From 1970 to 1977 Dave was involved with the Army National Guard. He was employed as a machinist for 43 years at Parker Hannifin from where he retired in 2012. On July 10, 1971 he married Nona M. Schultz at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Maribel. Dave was a member of First German Ev. Lutheran Church where he presently was serving as Executive Director of the church and was active with many other church and school committees throughout his years of membership. He had been a member of the Clipper City Barber Shoppers, was on multiple local bowling leagues and baseball leagues including both fast pitch softball and hardball teams. Dave was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Bowling Association. He coached grade school basketball teams and was also a WIAA referee and umpire for over 20 years. Dave ran the game clock for basketball games at Manitowoc Lutheran High School combined with his father Ken for a span of 40 years. From 1981 to 1987, Dave was the Assistant Fire Chief for the Silver Creek Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders and then for the next 20 years from 1987 to 2007 he held the position of Fire Chief. Up to the present time Dave was still active with the Silver Creek Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders. He was one of the founding members of the Radio Committee for Manitowoc County Firefighters Association. Dave was serving as Town Chairman of Manitowoc Rapids up to the present time and was also on the board of directors for the Eastman Employees Credit Union. He enjoyed taking trips with his wife, children and grandchildren to Disney World and Clark Lake and watching his grandchildren play sports. Dave was an active Green Bay Packer football fan and also enjoyed following the Milwaukee Brewers and the Wisconsin Badgers. He also enjoyed playing sheepshead getting together with his high school classmates and friends several times a month.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years: Nona; two children: Kristen (Steig) Schmidt, Manitowoc; Chad (Stephanie) Korte, Manitowoc; four grandchildren: Blake and Addison Korte; Cole and Mallory Schmidt; his mother: Delores Korte, Manitowoc; one sister: Kathleen (Daniel) Otto, Manitowoc; four sisters-in-law: Nancy (Tom) Ollendorf, Lakewood; Naomi (Greg) Klein, Manitowoc; Bonnie Schultz, Maribel; Sherry (Dale) Rezba, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends along with his extended family the Silver Creek Fire Fighters and First Responders. He was preceded in death by his father: Kenneth Korte on April 13, 2005; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Marvin and Carol Schultz.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at First German Ev. Lutheran Church, 1033 South 8th Street, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Benjamin Schaefer and Rev. Christopher Hoppe with burial to follow at Knollwood Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and then at First German Ev. Lutheran Church on Saturday from from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.

The family would like to convey their special thanks to the doctors and staff and Aurora Bay Care Medical Center in Green Bay, to Renee Schwiegel for everything she helped with at Aurora Medical Center and Aurora Bay Care, the Silver Creek First Responders, and the Manitowoc Rescue Squad. Also a special thanks to Pastors Benjamin Schaefer, Christopher Hoppe, and Eugene Kitzerow for all their visits, prayers, and comforting words with Dave and our family while he was at the hospital.
