Obituary

Donald E. Fogltanz, age 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on March 17, 2026. Donald was born in Manitowoc on August 1, 1933, to Marcella (Siebold) and Wencel Fogltanz. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1951. Two years later, Don entered the US Army and served overseas in Germany. Having earned the rank of Sergeant, he was honorably discharged from active duty in 1955. On October 2, 1953, he married Suzanne Slattery in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Don was employed with Burger Boat Company and retired after 45 years, having worked his way up from Carpenter, to Designer, to Manager of Engineering. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus. Don was an avid outdoorsman and loved being in the Northwoods for hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed creating stained glass pieces and was a master woodcraftsman – no matter what he did, he did with meticulous precision. He was a perfectionist.

Don is survived by his three children: James Fogltanz and his significant other, Ann Paasch, Manitowoc; Anne-Louise (Jeff) Senglaub, Manitowoc; Donald G. (Mary) Fogltanz, Manitowoc; grandchildren: Adam (Missy) Fogltanz, Mikayla (Zak) Mixdorf, Krista (Patrick) Begley, Marissa (significant other Robert Ball) Senglaub, Nicole (Patrick) Nelson, and Eric (Caitlyn) Fogltanz; great grandchildren: Kenley, Mason and Maxwell Fogltanz, and Roxanne Nelson; sister-in-law Anne Slattery; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his wife Suzanne; his parents; sister Elaine Goetz and her husband Claude; siblings-in-law Robert "Mack" Slattery, Connie and Roger Foerg, and Louis and Michaela Slattery; and parents-in-law Lester and Benita Slattery.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family for visitation at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Grand, 1416 Grand Avenue, Manitowoc, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. Doug LeCaptain. Military Honors and Committal Prayers will follow at Calvary Mausoleum, after which a luncheon will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 N. Water St.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the nurses Arianna and Kate, and PA Jarrod at Aurora BayCare for their exceptional, compassionate care of Don.
