Donald A. Slattery, age 96, a resident of Manitowoc, and formerly of Munster, IN, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2012 at his residence.
Don was born on February 26, 1915 in Goodland, IN to the late John and Emma Frohreich Slattery. He graduated from Goodland High School with the class of 1932. Don then received his B.S. in Pharmacy from Purdue University. On January 17, 1942, Don married Mary Holker in LaPorte, IN. He worked at Haney's Prescription Centers in northwest Indiana and became part owner of the business. Don later owned and operated Slattery's Health Appliance Center in Munster, IN. For many years Don was a member of Rotary International, and he enjoyed organizing the annual Breakfast with Santa with the Munster Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include Don's loving wife of 70 years: Mary; two daughters: Jane (Pat) O'Leary, Woodbridge, VA and Ann (Galen) Schleunes, Manitowoc; five grandchildren: Patrick O'Leary, Katie Hitchcock, Andrew Slattery, Michael O'Leary, and Amy Schleunes; five great grandchildren: Robert, Grace, Gannon, Jameson, and Owen; also other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by one sister: Marie Slattery; and two brothers: William and John Slattery.
Private family services were held on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Manitowoc. The Rev. Dr. James Klein officiated and burial will take place at Goodland Cemetery in Goodland, IN.
