Dorothy Schmidt, age 91, a resident of St. Mary's Home at Felician Village, Manitowoc, and formerly of 1224 E. 17th Street, Marshfield, entered eternal life on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at St. Mary's Home.
Dorothy was born on December 5, 1920 in Ladysmith to the late William and Grace Hilliker Wilson. She was a graduate of Ladysmith High School. On Easter Sunday, April 13, 1940, Dorothy married Karl W. Schmidt at United Methodist Church in Ladysmith. Karl preceded her in death on April 29, 2006. She and Karl lived in Ladysmith and Neillsville before settling in Marshfield where she served as the bookkeeper for The Shoe Mart, of which Karl was a co-owner for over 30 years. Dorothy was a committed member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Marshfield for 55 years. She spent many summer weekends at Conner's Lake Campground in Northern Wisconsin with her family. During her last six years at Felician Village, she was an active volunteer at St. Mary's Home. Throughout her life, Dorothy enjoyed baking, gardening, canning, sewing, and being a loving wife to Karl, and a loving mother to her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include one son: Gary (Janet) Schmidt, Manitowoc; three daughters: Judy (Evan) Butterbrodt, Horseshore Bend, AR, Karla (Al) Pfeiffer, Austin, TX; and Deanna (Mike) Christiansen, St. Louis Park, MN; nine grandchildren: Michelle (Calvin) Walton, Mike (Ruth) Butterbrodt, Julie (Derek) Posselt, Karen (Luke) Lancelle, Greg (Nicole) Schmidt, Tamara Pfeiffer, Brian (Rachel) Pfeiffer, Sara Pfeiffer, and Maggie Christiansen; 11 great grandchildren: Caleb Walton, Stefan and Ryan Butterbrodt, Daniel Posselt, Alexis, Marissa, and Cameron Lancelle, Carter, Eliana, and Malia Schmidt, and Lydia Pfeiffer; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Karl; three brothers; and one sister.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Blessed Angela Chapel at St. Mary's Home at Felician Village, 1635 S. 21st Street, Manitowoc from 2 pm until the time of the memorial service at 3 pm. Pastor Jeremy Vance and Pastor Greg Schmidt will officiate. Following the memorial service, a light meal will be served at The Felician Village.
