Obituary

Dorothy (Dottie) (Wegner) Seehaver was called to her Heavenly Home on Friday morning April 21st, 2017. She passed away peacefully at Shady Lane Nursing Home Manitowoc while receiving hospice care, after suffering a severe stroke Wednesday, April 5th.

Dorothy was born January 19th 1925 near Montello, Wisconsin. Her parents, Herman and Alma Wegner, brought her to Big Mecan Lutheran Church, Montello, Wisconsin to be baptized. She attended a one-room school through the 8th grade near their farm home. When she was 16 she left home to work in the war effort in Milwaukee , WI. She did everything from sewing gloves to working on flywheels that were larger than her.

On May 30th, 1947, she married Herbert Seehaver at Big Mecan Lutheran Church. Shortly thereafter the young couple moved to Milwaukee WI to find work. Herbert began working on the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad and Dorothy began working as a retail clerk in several grocery stores. They joined Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Cudahy, Wisconsin and made their home in St. Francis, Wisconsin. God blessed them with two children, David, born in 1949 and Sandy, born in 1951.

They continued to live at their house in St. Francis until 1985 when they bought a home in Lady Lake, (The Villages), Florida, and moved there permanently shortly thereafter. In their Florida retirement, they enjoyed many activities together such as bocce ball and shuffleboard leagues and the Wisconsin Club. Dorothy also volunteered her time with her sewing skills, making bibs for nursing homes and hospice patients, as well as knitting hats for cancer patients. They joined St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Leesburg, Florida, where Dorothy was very active in the kitchen helping to set up coffee, supplying freshly baked goods for the fellowship hour, and being an active member of the Mary Martha Club. She also was an active member of the Silver Lake Women's Club serving as the social chairman for several years.

After her husband Herb was called to his Heavenly Home on June 8th, 2001, she continued to live in The Villages and continued with her various activities. She remained at in The Villages unil April of 2015, when she moved to Manitowoc, Wisconsin, into assisted living at Laurel Grove, where she resided until her recent stroke.

Dorothy is survived by her sister, Elly (Carl) Kantorowitz, of Ripon, Wisconsin, her son, David (Karen) Seehaver, Manitowoc, Wisconsin and by her daughter, Sandy (Douglas) Toupalik, Wallace, Michigan.
