August 10, 1944 – November 4, 2020
Edward "Ed" E. Bessler, age 76, a resident of Indianapolis, IN, and formerly of Manitowoc, passed away peacefully after many visits from family on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.
Ed was born on August 10, 1944 in Newberry, MI to the late Frederick and Adrian (Dorn) Bessler. He graduated from Newberry High School with the class of 1962. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served overseas in Vietnam until his honorable discharge on August 13, 1965. Upon his return, Ed graduated from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, MI with a degree in Engineering. On May 23, 1970, Ed married Marlene Beyer at St. John United Church of Christ. She preceded him in death on December 11, 2014. He then moved his family to Manitowoc where he had a long career at Manitowoc Company. On August 31, 2019, Ed married Sandra Bessler at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Indianapolis, IN. Ed enjoyed spending his time travelling, spending time at his cabin in the woods and hunting.
Survivors include Ed's wife, Sandra; three sons, Kevin Bessler and his fiancée Kindi; Kurk (Chris) Bessler, and Bret (Jodi) Bessler; six grandchildren, Ryne, Cassidy, Cooper, Dalton, Brianna, and Conner; three stepchildren, Susan (Larry Zan) Stanfield, Dr. Matthew (Jennifer) Stanfield, and Chad Stanfield; step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; brother, Frederick Bessler Jr.; sister, Karen (Len) Duquette; also other relatives and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his stepson, Brad Beyer.
A Life Celebration Social for family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 North Water Street, Manitowoc, located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Military rites will be accorded by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 731 at 4 p.m. at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials in Ed's name.
