Obituary

Edward E. Schnell, age 90, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Friday, December 5, 2014 while surrounded by his family at St. Mary's Next Step in Manitowoc.

Ed was born on June 16, 1924 in Newton to the late Ernst and Emma Vogt Schnell. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1942. Ed enlisted in the Unites States Marine Corps and was stationed at Paris Island until his honorable discharge. On July 1, 1947, Ed married Mary May Ziesler at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Mary preceded him in death on October 16, 2008. Ed was employed as a machinist at Manitowoc Company for 42 years until his retirement in 1986. Ed also enjoyed working part time delivering mail for the United States Postal Service. Ed and Mary travelled throughout the United States and Europe. He was passionate and competitive about playing cribbage and sheepshead. Ed enjoyed biking for many years – even at the age of 85, making it round trip from Manitowoc to Point Beach. He was a proud, involved grandpa and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities.

Survivors include Ed's two children: Ann (Mike) Presto, Valders; and Jim Schnell and his special friend, Lori O'Connor, Manitowoc; five grandchildren: Adie (Joe) Minor, Matt Presto, Jacob, Jeremy and Jeffrey Schnell; great granddaughter: Anna Mae Minor; brother: LeRoy (Bernice) Schnell, Newton; special nieces and nephews; also other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 916 Pine Street, Manitowoc. Rev. Bruce E. Schwark will officiate. Relatives and friends may call at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will take place at a later date at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with burial of Ed's cremated remains at Evergreen Cemetery. Following the funeral service, a luncheon will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials in Ed's name.
