Obituary

Edwin W. Holdorff, age 86, a resident of the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 1613 South 13th Street, Manitowoc, entered eternal life early Saturday morning, February 5, 2011 at the care center.

Edwin was born on July 23, 1924 Brillion, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late Herman and Lillian Groth Holdorff. Edwin served his country with the United States Army overseas during World War II in France and Germany. He received a Purple Heart for injuries received during combat. After being honorably discharged Edwin returned to Manitowoc and was employed as an auto mechanic locally and then became employed with Manitowoc Engineering until he retired in 1982. After his retirement, Edwin worked at Wal-Mart for almost 15 years. On February 16, 1947 he married Joyce E. Spiering in Two Rivers. She preceded him in death on August 10, 1994.Edwin was a member of First German Ev. Lutheran Church, the Disabled American Veterans Post in Two Rivers, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Otto-Oas Post #659. Edwin enjoyed bowling and was a member of several bowling leagues in Manitowoc.

He is survived by his daughter: Dawn (David) Greathouse, Oak Creek, WI; two grandchildren: Heidi (Ryan) Weed, Milwaukee, WI; Erin (Jimmy) Haubert, Milwaukee, WI; two great granddaughters: Jillian Marie and Olivia Patricia Weed; one sister: Erna Liebzeit, Appleton, WI; one brother: Earl (Jean) Holdorf, Manitowoc, WI; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Joyce; one brother: Herman Holdorff; two step brothers: Elmer and Alvin Holdorff; two sisters: Edna Wilcox and Esther Kreie.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home with Rev. David Rosenow officiating. Entombment will take place at Knollwood Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Military rites will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Otto-Oas Post #659 immediately following the services at the funeral home. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Wednesday from 11:00 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm.

Memorial would be appreciated to First German Ev. Lutheran Church, Alzheimer Association or the donor's choice.

The family would like to extend their thanks for the wonderful care that had been given to Edwin at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center while he resided there for the past 5 years.
