Elaine M. Ryer, age 91, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.
Elaine was born on April 5, 1922 in Manitowoc to the late John and Emma Sleger Simon. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1940. On August 17, 1946, Elaine married Frederick C. Ryer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1981. Elaine and her husband had owned and operated the Locker Room bar in Manitowoc from the late 60's to the mid 70's. She was a very organized person and loved baking for her grandchildren. Elaine was an avid Packer fan and enjoyed going to the games. She also enjoyed playing cards – especially with her great grandchildren. Elaine was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Manitowoc where she also volunteered.
Survivors include Elaine's daughter: Jacque Deering, Manitowoc; seven grandchildren: Tracie (George) Tsiamis, Waukesha; Troy (Pam) Hilton, North Prairie; Trisha (Matt) Sherwood, West Bend; Kari (Tony) Posvic, Manitowoc; Kory (Kelly) Deering, Valders; Eric (Kirsten) Deering, Manitowoc; and Sara (Zac Barstad) Deering, Whitelaw; 23 great grandchildren: Pano, Lexi, Niko, and Yanni Tsiamis; Mitchell and Jackson Hilton; Brooke, Tori, Sami, Lauren, Connor, and Nathan Sherwood; Zachary and Austin Posvic; Brock, Weston, and Morgan Deering; Brayden, Sawyer, Rhylan, and McGwyre Deering; Bryce and Sofia Barstad; great great granddaughter: Zaylee Hilton; sister-in-law: Helen Simon, Albuquerque, NM; special niece: Jolene (Joe) Zimmer; also many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Elaine was preceded in death by her sister: Verona (Ray) Arsineau; two brothers: Quiren Simon and Joseph (Marianne) Simon; and son-in-law: Don Deering.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo – 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dave Beaudry with burial to take place at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at which time prayers will be read and followed by the procession leaving for St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo for the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Following the funeral service there will be a luncheon for family and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
