Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, Elton Frank Steinbrecker, "Steiny," on June 8, 2025, at Manitowoc Health and Rehab surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 87. Elton was born on January 12, 1938, in Manitowoc, WI, to the proud parents Vernon and Caroline (Blimel) Steinbrecker. Elton attended St. Andrews Catholic Grade School, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc in 1956. He then enlisted into the Marine Corps in September of 1956. After being honorably discharged, he started his career in the construction industry, working for Grey Robinson Construction, Gulseth Construction, and retiring from Vinton Construction in 2005.

On July 22, 1961, he married Diane (Bednarz) Steinbrecker in Coleman, WI. Together they raised four children in Manitowoc, WI and made a wonderful family life by coaching sports, traveling to Coleman every other weekend to visit Diane's family, being on the Board of Education for St. Andrews Grade School, and being an active member of St. Andrews Parish. Elton was known for being an avid card player, playing weekly with friends from St. Andrews in the lower level of the school, then known as "The Barn."

Elton was an enthusiastic wood worker and could often be found in the basement or garage creating many beautiful projects.

In 1998 Elton and Diane purchased property in Crooked Lake, WI, where they established a family cottage and created great memories for the entire family and many friends. "The Cottage" was one of Elton's favorite places to be. Many campfires, fishing tournaments with his sons and grandsons, pontoon rides, and remodeling projects that his family will forever remember.

Elton's family consists of his loving wife of 64 years Diane; their children Jodi (Dale) DuPont of  Manitowoc, Jeff Steinbrecker of Green Bay, Jennifer Ledvina of Manitowoc, and Jarey Steinbrecker  who preceded him in death in March 2024; grandchildren Samantha (Patrick) Deeley-Burke, Travis and  Emily Dupont, and Jake Dupont all of Manitowoc, Emma (Kyle) Wangelin of Kaukauna, WI, and Nathan  Steinbrecker of Oshkosh, WI; great-grandchildren Ireland Rose Burke, Vienna LaRae Burke, and  Chase Elton Dupont; sister, Ollie Millonzi of Austin, TX; and sister-in-law Shirley Shroeder of  Manitowoc; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Elton's love and pride for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was endearing.

He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Caroline Steinbrecker; in-laws Oscar and Rose Bednarz; son Jarey Steinbrecker; brother Allan Steinbrecker; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Clyde and Janet Lock, Edward Schroeder, David and Barb Seese; nephew Daniel Lock; and niece Stacey Johnson.

Elton will be remembered for his cunning sense of humor and fun-loving personality.
