Ernest E. Ruffell Jr., age 85, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life peacefully on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at St. Mary's Home at Felician Village.
Ernie was born on November 27, 1931 in Edinburgh, Scotland to the late Ernest and Catherine Henderson Ruffell Sr. He graduated from Dundalk High School in Baltimore, MD with the class of 1951. Ernie then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country in the Korean War for four years. He had been employed as a electrical and mechanical engineer in the maritime industry and had worked in Henderson, TN, Holland, MI, Richland, MO, Charleston, NH and concluded his working career at Burger Boat in Manitowoc. On October 28, 1989, Ernie married Barb in Manitowoc. He was a member of Manitowoc Golden K Kiwanis, Manitowoc Meals on Wheels, Clan Gathering Bagpipers of Green Bay, and First Presbyterian Church. Ernie enjoyed playing his bagpipes which he performed private shows and marching in parades. He also liked golfing, playing soccer as a young man, being "Mr. Fix It", ushering for 20 plus years at the Capital Civic Center, and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include Ernie's wife: Barb; two children: Ernest (Larisa) Ruffell III, Jacksonville, FL; and Rhonda (Dave) Browning, Mt. Pleasant, SC; three stepchildren: Lynn (Joe) Geigel, Richfield; Joy (Dan) Dueno, Manitowoc; and Don (Jolene) Settergren, Fitchburg; also many grandchildren and step-grandchildren; brother: Ron (Barbara) Ruffell; three sisters: Cathy Webster, Marge Moser, and Valerie (Otto) Keym; also other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Matthew Sauer officiating. Following the memorial service, a luncheon will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com
