Eugene D. Ambruso, age 83, a resident at the Manitowoc Health Care Center, 2021 South Alverno Road, Manitowoc, formerly of La Follette Avenue, Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the health care center.
Eugene was born on September 14, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of the late Daniel and Jean Nieman Ambruso. Eugene served overseas with the United States Navy during World War II stationed on the submarine the USS Plunger. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Eugene had been employed as a sales engineer with several manufacturing industries. He was married to Verna Ernst in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. She preceded him in death. Eugene volunteered at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Fairview Country Club in Two Rivers.
He is survived by 2 sons: Daniel Ambruso, Naples, FL; David (Tina) Ambruso, Kenosha, WI; 2 daughters: Diane Fox and special friend, Mark Petersen, Gurnee, IL; Debbie Ambruso and her partner, Karla Lehmann, Milwaukee, WI; 2 grandchildren: Holly Lynn Ambruso and Santana Juliano Ambruso; other relatives and friends. Eugene was preceded in death by the mother of his children: Lois Ruth Ambruso; and his wife: the former Verna Ernst.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 2, 2010 at St. Peter Church, 2224 30th Avenue, Kenosha, WI. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. William Hayward. Relatives and friends may call at St. Peter Church on Friday, July 2, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers that family request memorials be directed to: Old Glory Honor Flight, 4650 E. Spencer Street, Appleton, WI 54914, to help defray transportation costs to Washington, D.C. for World War II veterans to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices.
