Obituary

Eugene "Gene" F. Hynek, age 71, of 5619 Quail Circle, Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at his residence with his family by his side.

Gene was born on May 22, 1944 in Manitowoc. He was the son of the late Victor and Mary Jerabek Hynek. Gene graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1962. He then entered the United States Army in 1963 and served his country overseas in Korea. After his honorable discharge in 1966, Gene returned to Manitowoc and was employed at the Left End Restaurant for owners Max MaGee and Fuzzy Thurston. Gene then became employed with Imperial Eastman followed with employment at Lube Devices from where he retired in 2008. After retiring, Gene worked part time with security at Burger Boat Company. On July 22, 1967 he was married to Susan J. Renier in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on November 1, 2010. Gene faithfully attended Hope Community Church. He was a member of Manitowoc Fish and Game, Manitowoc Rifle and Pistol Club, and Friends of the National Rifle Association, holding offices in each of the organizations. Gene had a lifelong interest in mushroom hunting and cultivation. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying camping, hunting, and fishing.

He is survived by three daughters: his favorite oldest daughter, Lee Rae Coenen, Manitowoc; his favorite middle daughter, Heidi (Craig) Kapinos, Manitowoc; his favorite youngest daughter, Tammy (Robert) Bast, Sheboygan Falls; five grandchildren: Jacob Coenen, Tamlyn Coenen, Katie Kapinos, Sophie Bast, and Samuel Bast; one great grandson: Noah Coenen; brother-in-law: Norman Oelke, Manitowoc; two sisters-in-law: Ruth (Richard) Heinz, Raleigh, NC; Helen (Michael) Carr, Mt. Orab, OH; brother-in-law: Michael Renier, Boulder, CO; two close friends: Ron Sielski, Manitowoc; Jim Wilsmann, Mishicot; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Victor and Mary Hynek; wife: Susan; one sister: LaVerne Oelke.

Memorial services will be held 5 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Hope Community Church, 4408 County Road B, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. John Aitken. Relatives and friends may call at Hope Community Church on Sunday from 3 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 5 p.m. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel.
