Eugene "Gene" H. Flueckinger, age 92, a Manitowoc resident, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center, Green Bay.

He was born June 30, 1931 in Rushville, Nebraska, son of the late Walter and Esther (Jungck) Flueckinger. Gene attended Rushville High School, graduating with the class of 1949. Following high school, he was drafted into the United States Army. On November 16, 1957, Gene married Sharon Cross at Sheridan Lutheran Church, Lincoln, Nebraska. Gene's passion was flying, and he was employed as a pilot for the Department of Aeronautics in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Horizons Inc. in Rapid City, South Dakota. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed farming and woodworking. Gene was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, and enjoyed attending bible study, where he was nicknamed "Google" because of his desire and ability to research every topic. Above all, he loved his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandson. He was always there for their activities and loved attending their sporting events.

Gene is survived by his wife Sharon Flueckinger; three children: Wendell Flueckinger; John (Tonia) Flueckinger, and Kristi (Brian) Kiley; six grandchildren: Kayla (Ryan) Schermetzler, Alan (Leanna) Kiley, William Flueckinger, Dexter Flueckinger, Bethany Kiley, and Tahvory Flueckinger; one great-grandson: Oliver Schermetzler; one sister: Doris White; brother-in-law: Vaughn Cross; and sister-in-law: Sharol Cross. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Walter (Lavonne) Flueckinger, Ruth (Merl) Spillman, Evelyn (Lyle) McCune, and Clayton (Janice) Flueckinger; brother-in-law: Delbert Marshall; his mother-in-law: Helen Cross; and one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Thomas "Macie" (Delores) Cross and Lila Mae Cross.

Cremation has occurred at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory, Manitowoc, and a memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, 628 North Water Street, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Heather Yerion-Keck. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Drews Bleser Post #88 of Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:30 a.m.
