Fred W. Burkart, age 87, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Rivers Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center in Manitowoc.
Fred was born on May 25, 1928 in Montana to the late Peter and Caroline Hecker Burkart. He attended schools in Valders. Fred then helped on his family's farm in the town of Liberty. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 and was stationed in Germany for several months. On May 26, 1951, Fred married Margaret Denk at St. Marys Catholic Church in Clarks Mills. Fred was employed at Imperial Eastman for 30 years until his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed spending his time gardening and helping his family. Fred was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
Survivors include Fred's wife of 64 years: Marge; three children: Jim (Ann) Burkart, Whitelaw; Kim Waack, Appleton; and Bradley (Lisa) Burkart, Sturgeon Bay; four grandchildren: Carissa (Scott) Dembroski, Jaimie (Ryan) Timm, Andrew and Rachel Burkart; two great grandchildren: Hailey Timm and Kaileb Dembroski; brother: Paul (Janice) Burkart, Rochester, MN; two sisters: Helen Burkart and Carol Wagner, both of Milwaukee; also other relatives and friends. Fred was preceded in death by his parents: Peter and Caroline Burkart; daughter: Sherry DeRoche; and brother: Theodore Burkart.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2015 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Rev. Dave Pleier will officiate with entombment to take place at Calvary Mausoleum. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Following the funeral service, a luncheon will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home.
