Gary P. Krumel, age 80, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life late Thursday evening, April 27, 2017 at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Gary was born on June 1, 1936 in Manitowoc. He was the son of the late Daniel and Florence (Albrecht) Krumel. Gary attended Lincoln High School and graduated with the class of 1954. He served his country with the United States Navy from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1957. On May 3, 1958 he married Joan D. Ewald in Manitowoc . Gary had been employed for 36 years with the Manitowoc County Highway Department retiring in 1990. He was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ, lifetime member of the Manitowoc Gun Club and Wildlife Forever and the Manitowoc County Fair. Gary enjoyed playing cards, traveling, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and spending time with family was always at the top of his list. In 1992 Gary was the recipient of a heart-transplant .
He is survived by his wife of 59 years: Joan; his children: Robert Krumel, Alaska; Kim (Terry) Thiel, Howards Grove; Dale (Patti Ann) Krumel, Florida; grandson: Jayme Thiel; granddaughter: Kara Thiel; sister: Lavange Wilda, Florida; two brothers: Wayne Krumel, Florida; Dick (Maureen) Krumel, Manitowoc; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Judy Beck, Jim Ewald and special friend Kathy Wanish, Joan Ewald, Vivian Krumel Storey; along with many special relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Daniel and Florence Krumel; brother: Dan Krumel; two brothers-in-law: Richard Wicihowski and Don Ewald; and one sister-in-law: Sheila Ewald.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Judine Duerwaechter with entombment of his cremated remains at Knollwood Mausoleum at a later date. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Following the memorial service there will be a luncheon held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home.
