Obituary

Gerlinde "Oma" Kempfert, age 80, a resident of Manitowoc, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.

Gerlinde was born on February 20, 1935 in Weinheim, Germany to the late Valentin and Barbara Fabian Weidenauer. While living in Germany, Gerlinde met the love of her life, Arnold Kempfert. They were married on June 29, 1957 in Weinheim. On December 4, 1957, Gerlinde came to the United States and moved to the family farm, later moving to Manitowoc. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, camping, travelling, and making trips to the casino. But above all, Oma enjoyed spending time with her family and friends – especially her grandchildren and great granddaughters.

Survivors include Gerlinde's husband of 57 years: Arnold; daughter: Linda Mumpy, Manitowoc; two grandchildren: Andrew (Janet) Mumpy, Missouri City, TX; and Michelle Mumpy and Mike, Blackhawk, CO; two great granddaughters: Hayley and Leila; sister: Waldtraut Zachler, Neckarhausen, Germany; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gerlinde was preceded in death by her parents: Valentin and Barbara Weidenauer; six brothers; six sisters; and son-in-law: Keith Mumpy.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Matthew Sauer will officiate with burial of Gerlinde's cremated remains taking place at Knollwood Memorial Gardens at a later date. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 5 p.m. Following the service, a dinner for family and friends will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
