Grace M. Brachmann, age 102, a Manitowoc resident, died Monday, April 16, 2018 at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on June 24, 1915 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Surfus. Grace was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. On February 14, 1942 she married Kenneth Brachmann at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on January 3, 2011. Grace was employed with Mirro and later with Kelvinator for many years until her retirement. Following retirement, Grace and her husband travelled a lot to Texas where they made many wonderful friends.
Survivors include one daughter: Bonnie Hammes, Reedsville; three grandchildren: Donald Knuth, Manitowoc, Steven (Tracy) Knuth, Manitowoc, Seth Hammes, Lomira; two great-grandchildren: Taylor Downing and Ayden Knuth. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was also preceded in death by one son: Arthur Brachmann; three brothers: Lester Surfus, Walter Surfus, George Surfus; two sisters: Mae Pozorski, Marie Close.
Cremation has taken place at Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, Manitowoc. Private family services will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Calvary Mausoleum Chapel where Grace will be laid to rest with her husband Kenneth and son Arthur.
