Hans J. Schmidt, age 90, a resident of Manitowoc, died Saturday, April 14, 2018 at his residence.
He was born on July 11, 1927, in Teplitz Germany, son of the late Andreas and Josephine Schmidt. On May 27th 1978, he married Mary Hallock at the Cook County Courthouse in Chicago IL. Hans came to the United States from Germany in 1958 and lived in New York City until moving to the Chicago area in the early 1960's where the family lived in Glenview IL. He worked at Universal Automatic in Des Plaines IL for several years before starting his own tool & die business on the north side of Chicago. He was an active member of the Alpine Ski Club and was passionate about skiing locally and across the US. After retirement in 1993, he moved to Manitowoc. There he enjoyed being a member of the Elks Club, golf and bowling. Hans loved working in his garden and taking long walks. He was always curious and enjoyed engaging others in conversation. Hans was a dedicated family man and during his life, he was blessed with many treasured friends.
Survivors include his loving wife: Mary Schmidt, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law: Karen and Steve Wydra, Heath TX; grandchild: Peter (PJ) Wydra. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Else Schmidt.
