Harold E. Durgin, 86, of Manitowoc passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Rivers Bend Rehabilitation Center.
Harold was born in South Portland, Maine to the late Harold L. and Amy (Ballantine) Durgin. Harold served in the United States Air Force before going to college where he earned his Ph. D in Astronomy. He was an Astronomer with the U.S. Naval Observatory until his retirement. In October 1999, he married Bonnie J. Pankratz. They enjoyed retirement while living and traveling together in Arizona, North Carolina, Maine and Wisconsin.
Harold is survived by wife, Bonnie, of Manitowoc and his son and daughter-in-law, Nelson (Rebecca) Durgin from Lamonie, Maine. His brother and sister-in-law Richard J.(Jean) Durgin from Virginia. He is further survived by grandson, Arron Durgin and Bonnie's children Caren Burke, Laura Pankratz (special friend Tom), Eileen (Lenny) Propson, Kay (Neal) Kaderabek, Greg (Peggy) Pankratz and Bonnie's grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Harold was a Christian man who believed in God, Jesus Christ and always looked to the stars and beyond. A private Celebration of Life for Harold's family will be held at a later date.
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting with arrangements.
