Henry Streckert, age 98, a resident of Brillion West Haven Assisted Living in Brillion, formerly a Manitowoc resident, entered eternal life on Friday evening, January 1, 2016 at Brillion West Haven.
Henry was born December 30, 1917 at Long Lake, Forest County. He was the son of the late John and Flora Miller Streckert. Henry served his country with the United States Army. He served overseas in Africa and Sicily during WWII.
After the war, Henry worked for Streckert Lumber and Supply in Abbotsford, Wisconsin. He trained and worked as a barber for several years, eventually opening his own barber shop. Later he was a self-employed carpenter in the Manitowoc area until his retirement.
Henry loved hunting and enjoyed every opportunity to go fishing (nothing like catching a big one!). He was always volunteering to help others at church, or anyone who was in need.
He married Cora Rusch on May 24, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in the town of Liberty, Manitowoc County Wisconsin. She preceded him in death. He later married Dorothy Waack on June 13, 1970 at First German Ev. Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on January 26, 2006. Henry was a member of First German Ev. Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his children: Ray Streckert, Ham Lake, MN; Robert (Cheryl) Streckert, Lakeville, MN; Margaret (Mark) Hinds, Brillion; Steve (Joan) Waack, Manitowoc; daughter-in-law, Jenny Waack, Manitowoc; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cora; his second wife, Dorothy; one son, Gary Waack; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl (Buchner) Streckert; one great grandson, Hunter Jasper.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Christopher Hoppe. Burial will be at a later date at Fort Howard Cemetery in Green Bay. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Following the funeral services there will be a luncheon held for relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to First German Ev. Lutheran Church or Manitowoc Lutheran High School.
