Howard G. Funk, age 77, a Manitowoc resident, died Thursday morning, December 7, 2017 at St. Mary's Nursing Home, Manitowoc.
He was born on April 5, 1940, in Iowa, son of the late Raymond and Dorothy (Schneider) Funk. Howard was a graduate of Algona High School with the class of 1958. He attended the University of Iowa and received a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1963. On July 22, 1967 Howard married Arlene Shafer at United Church of Christ in Rosendale. Howard was employed as an engineer with various companies throughout his career, including Perfex Corp. in Milwaukee, Liquid Carbonic Corp. in Oconto, Kelvinator and Manitowoc Ice, both in Manitowoc. Howard was a lifelong Hawkeye fan.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years: Arlene Funk, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law: Timothy and Jeni Funk, DePere; Two sisters and one brother-in-law: Lois Heskett, Esterville, IA, Dorene and Norman Kammin, Elroy; one brother and sister-in-law: Leonard and Patricia Funk, Jefferson; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Dean and Sandra Shafer, Columbiaville, MI, Dan and Debra Shafer, Alabama; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Betty and Richard Dahlke, Rosendale. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Raymond and Dorothy Funk.
Cremation has occurred at Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, Manitowoc. Private family graveside services were held at Rosendale Cemetery, Rosendale.
