Irene Kaufman, age 91, a Manitowoc resident, entered into eternal life on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center in Manitowoc.

Irene was born on April 30, 1919 in Wasson Flats, Montana to the late John and Esther Brown Lynch. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1936. On June 24, 1942, Irene married George Kaufman in Manitowoc. For many years, Irene worked as a nursing assistant for Holy Family Memorial Medical Center and the Manitowoc Clinic. She was very active as a volunteer for the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, and also The Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. Irene was a member of St. Francis of Assisi and also the former Sacred Heart Rosary Society.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, George; 5 children: Pat (Charles) Holst, Manitowoc; Tom (Colleen) Kaufman, Portage; Nancy (Robert) Gamble, Sturgeon Bay; John Kaufman, Milwaukee; and Mary Kaufman, Manitowoc; 9 grandchildren: Marge Berry, Erin, Kyle, Ross and Ryan Kaufman, John and Amy Gamble, Karen and Joe Kaufman; 3 great granddaughters: Anna and Faith Berry, and Mackenzie Gamble; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one brother: Jack Lynch; and one nephew: John Lynch.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi – Grand on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 from 9:30 am until the beginning of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. The Rev. Richard Klingeisen will officiate with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, N. 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Irene's family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staffs of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center and the Villa at Felician Village for the care they provided to their family.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to The Society of St. Vincent De Paul.
