James "Bonky" David Bonk, age 71, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life while surrounded by his family on Monday, May 29, 2017 at his residence.
Jim was born on July 13, 1945 in Washington D.C. He was the child of the late Frank and Dorothy Steffen Bonk. Jim graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1963, and served in the United States Army from 1964 - 1967. On October 5, 1968, Jim married Mary Jo Hallada at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He had been employed as a beer distributor in Manitowoc County for many years and had retired from Parker Hannifin in 2010. Jim enjoyed bowling, golfing, watching the Badgers and Packers, attending his grandsons' sporting events, and above all, Jim enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family and friends.
Survivors include Jim's wife of 48 years: Mary Jo; four children: Bruce Bonk, Manitowoc; Jamie Bonk, Menasha; Troy Bonk, Manitowoc; and April (Brett) Cook, Madison; three grandsons: Travis, Adam, and Alec; mother: Elinor Martin, Ormond Beach, FL; two sisters: Judy Hermann and Jayne Thompson, both of Manitowoc; special sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Kathie (Allan) Reynolds, Manitowoc; niece: Jodi (Matt) Jalbert, and their children, Addison and Khloe, Manitowoc; nephew: James Reynolds, Manitowoc; and other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by father-in-law and mother-in-law: James and Tessie Hallada; two brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Jim and Jean Hallada; and Chuck Thompson; and special aunt and uncle: Bea and Sam Cook.
Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo – 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dave Pleier. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo on Monday from 3 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 5 p.m. Following the service, a dinner will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
