James R. Green, Sr., of Manitowoc, formerly of Marquette, MI., passed away on Tuesday, December 29 ^th at Shady Lane.

Jim was born on March 30, 1927 in Marquette, MI., the son of William and Edna (Magnuson) Green.  He attended John D. Pierce Schools and Graveraet High School, quitting school to join the military, but completed his education following his military service.  Jim then met his future wife, Constance O'Neill, on a blind date.  They married in 1947 and began their family.  Jim worked for the DSS&A Railroad (Soo Line Railroad), retiring in 1986 after 36 years.

Jim was a "jack of all trades" and could do anything from plumbing, wiring, and heating, and he loved remodeling his hunting camp.  He also enjoyed cooking, woodworking, smoking fish, and playing cribbage with his brothers at camp.  Jim made the best potato sausage ever.  His greatest love was spending time with the kids in the old neighborhood and then the grandchildren, building a fire to cook potatoes or smores.

Jim volunteered approximately 10 years at St. Vincent De Paul Society of Marquette and was well known to many.  He also was a proud member of the American Legion for over 50 years.

Jim will be dearly missed by his wife of 73 years, Connie; children Karen (Philip) Hogan III, James (Brenda) Green, Jr., and Colleen (Barry) Eady; grandchildren Pamela (Derek Stewart) Westerman, Heather (Richard Francois) Hogan, Krystal (Shane) Temple, Philip (Jennifer) Hogan IV, Christopher (Jennifer) Green, and Nicholas Green, ten great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.  Jim was the last surviving family member of 9 children.  Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Edna Green, eight siblings, their spouses, nephews, and a niece.

Private family services will be held.

Inurnment will be in Marquette, Michigan at a later date.
