Obituary

James R. Sands, age 77, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Fieldcrest Manor.

Jim was born on March 2, 1937 in Hinsdale, Illinois to the late William and Edna Akin Sands. After graduation, Jim joined the U.S. Army serving in Germany. After an honorable discharge, he went to work on the Weisbrook dairy farm in Illinois and when they moved to their new farm in Valders, Jim moved with them. Later, he worked at Manitowoc Engineering where he met Carl Van who would later become his best friend.

Survivors include his daughters by his second marriage, Jessica and Rebecca Heim of Manitowoc, Jim's "little brother," as he like to introduce him, Bill Sands of Jacksonville Beach, FL, two nephews and four cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Loretta and Carol and his best friend Carl Van. Carl and Judy Van along with their family became a very important part of Jim's life and contributed greatly to his happiness and well being.

In respect with Jim's wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial service. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. Jim's cremated remains will be buried at Old Stonington Cemetery in Stonington, Illinois. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com
