Janet E. Peroutka

Janet E. Peroutka passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, at age 82, at her home. Janet was born on May 14, 1944, in Manitowoc to her parents Herbert and Elaine (Karbon) Sprang. She graduated from Mishicot High School in 1963, and then on July 24, 1965, she married Joseph E. Peroutka at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Francis Creek. Over the years, Janet worked at various places including the Herald Times Reporter and the Manitowoc Police Department as a crossing guard – she was the only female crossing guard to ride a motorcycle to work! Later, she retired as the Deli Manager at Main Street Market in Mishicot. Janet was a wonderful cook and well-known for her potato salad. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and then her great-grandchildren – especially the babies. Janet will be missed by her family, who meant the world to her, and who she was always helping and caring for.

Janet is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Joseph; children Mark (JoAnn) Peroutka and Susie (Craig) Van Ess; grandchildren Joey (Margaret) Peroutka, Christopher Peroutka, Eric Peroutka, Josh (Gao) Van Ess, Vanessa Van Ess, and Savannah Van Ess; great-grandchildren Liam, Kara, Addy, Bella, and Ziibi; siblings James (Sharon) Sprang, Joy (Dick) Kopidlansky, Juney Casey, Jon (Debbie) Sprang, and Jack (Cindy) Sprang; sister-in-law Marie (Robert) Schultz; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jill Sprang, and sister-in-law Grace Theroux.

Visitation will be held at Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, 628 N. Water St., Manitowoc, on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, just to the south of the funeral home. Interment will take place at Knollwood Mausoleum Chapel at 2:00 p.m.
