Janette E.
Miller
December 23, 1954 – October 29, 2024
Janette Elaine Miller was born to Emory R.L. and Joetta L. Crump on December 23, 1954 in Dallas, Texas.
She departed this world, in peace, October 29, 2024 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, with loved ones at her side.
Janette married Stephen W. Miller on October 3, 1997 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where they resided for many years. During their life, they shared many adventures. Having purchased a wonderful Morgan sailboat, the Starship Vixen, they ventured down the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico where they traveled the intercoastal waterway and the Gulf to Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida. They resided there on their boat as Captain and Mate along with their companions, Raja, the deck cat, and Cerce, the deck dog, for several years. The Starship was a great source of pride for Janette in which she spent many hours of joy. To help with Stephen's aging mother, they moved to his hometown, Manitowoc, bringing with them the beautiful Starship Vixen who then was given her freedom on Lake Michigan.
Janette, by profession, was an educator. She attained degrees of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Masters of Education – Secondary Education/Math, and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction. She wasn't an ordinary educator. Janette sought and taught innovative methods of learning. She genuinely cared for her students, encouraging them to succeed. She served in community colleges and universities in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Wisconsin. Janette retired in 2018 from the Universities of Wisconsin Colleges, then retired a second time from Lakeshore Technical College in 2023. All in all, she spent 35 years in the teaching profession.
Forever a lover of our animal friends, Janette was an ASPCA Guardian adopting pets around the world. Owner of many cats, dogs, and birds through the years, her love and dedication to each made for very happy pets.
As such, that love was a source of inspiration for her art. Janette was a very talented artist and writer. Not one to choose the easy path, she chose watercolors as her medium. Probably because it was the most challenging of mediums to perfect. Being the researcher she was, she learned how to accomplish the visions for her art. Some art she painted just for family and friends, all to our complete amazement. Foxes, felines, flowers and birds, landscapes and skyscapes were her subjects brought to life. Poetry that flowed from her soul to yours like a River to the sea was often delivered when you needed it most. She knew. A loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, she always looked upon those she loved as hers to spoil. And we were.
Janette was also an avid gardener and gourmet cook. Some of the best meals came from her garden and kitchen. She cooked and canned and then, shared! Her home was adorned with well-planned flower and vegetable beds, and fruit trees.
Janette's spiritual belief was steadfast. Ever brave and courageous during her illness, she held that there is that place in the universe where we all are connected.
This beautiful soul is survived by her husband, Stephen W. Miller, her sister, Cynthia (Roy) Vaughn, brother, Douglas Crump, nephews and nieces, Jeremy (Gina) Crump, Joshua (Nakita) Crump, and Cameron Crump, great nephews and nieces, Alec and Aiden Crump, Victoria McDonald and Neveah Crump, great-great nephews and nieces, Amorette, Oliver and Luke; as well as many loved cousins, other relatives and friends.
Janette follows these loved ones to eternity: her father, Emory R.L. Crump, her mother, Joetta L. Burnet, her brother, Gary M. Crump, grandparents: Walter and Loretta Parma, grandmother, Lola Brooks, and many beloved aunts and uncles.
