Janice L. (Ewald) Wehausen, 72, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 in hospice at her home in Tucson, AZ while surrounded by family and friends.
Janice was born on May 15, 1943, daughter of the late Armin & Lorraine Ewald. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc and Martin Luther College, New Ulm, MN. Janice taught elementary school at San Pablo Mission, Tucson, AZ. On May 6, 1967 she married Roy Wehausen at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in the town of Liberty, Manitowoc County. He preceded her in death on August 14, 2005. They moved to Tucson, AZ in 1976 where they operated an auto salvage business until retirement.
Janice and Roy were charter members of Redeemer Lutheran Church and School in Tucson, AZ where she taught elementary and Sunday school. She implemented Redeemer's piano instruction program and continued to give lessons at two schools in Tucson until July, 2015. Janice also established the Lutheran Girl Pioneer program at the church. By serving on their national board, she helped congregations nationwide begin their own programs. Janice spent over a year teaching English for a Lutheran mission in Pilsen, Czech Republic. As Vice President of "Christians Forward Southeast Asia", she served in Thailand several times.
Survivors include Janice's three children: Rachel (Terry) Coyle, Tucson, AZ; Richard (Kim) Wehausen, Houston, TX; and Jayme (David) Kahn, Spencerville, IN; six grandchildren: Chrystel Pierce (Larry Whalen), Matthew Pierce (Danielle), Dustin Wehausen, all of Tucson, AZ; Andrew Wehausen, Ft. Lajeune, NC; Jessica Wehausen , Houston; and Caitlyn Kahn of Fort Wayne, IN; three great grandchildren: Brayden, Jace, and Brooklynn of Tucson; three siblings: Richard (Martha) Ewald, Manitowoc, WI; Bonnie Ewald (Linae Day) Scottsdale, AZ; and Sue (Bob) Kempfert, Manitowoc, WI. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Christian memorial service was held on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Tucson, AZ followed by interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Tucson, AZ. Memorial gifts may be designated for the "Music & Instrument Lesson Fund" at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 8845 N. Silverbell Road, Tucson, AZ 85743.
