Obituary

Jeanette Briget Crowe Miller died peacefully on Sunday, October 8th, 2023, at her home in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. She was born on March 16th, 1946, and lived a hell of a life. Harold and Laura were her parents. John, Mary, Michael, and Patricia were her siblings. Manitowoc was always home, but Jeanette traveled a great deal when she was younger, which is when she met Don(ald), her future husband. They met in Germany, and it was a true fairy-tale romance. Shortly after they met, they were married on November 16th, 1973, in Hanau, Germany, with a few witnesses, and a marriage certificate that her descendants can't read. But it was in the castle of the Brothers Grimm, which is awesome, what a story!

Jeanie's life was filled with adventure, happiness, and a true zest for life. She lived it to the fullest, from the Emerald Isle shores, to the tranquility of isolated Canadian lakes (except for that one time when Don lodged a Rapala in his finger, and Nate had to do 'surgery'), the contentment of the northern Pacific Coast, and her home and garden, all of which she truly loved. But what truly made all of those moments was her love for who she was with, where she was, and the shared experiences. Her ease of laughter, joy, caring, and sense of wonder for even the smallest slice of life were the defining aspects of who she was.

She loved hanging sheets on the clothesline, gardening, her gazebo, cooking for, and with, her family and friends, pizza on the grill, a fine olive oil, good wine, throwing the ball for Skipper and Harry at the blue rail, riding her moped, not wearing a seat belt, Ireland, donkeys, pranking her friends, and working in the garden.

Throughout her life, Jeanie was an amazingly giving person, from her time as a nurse, and through her volunteering at the Rahr-West, Woodland Dunes, work as a crossing guard, time at Vinny's, and as the "swat team of quality of life" when visiting her family in California. Not to mention as a wife, and as a mother. She also served on the Manitowoc School Board, and was able to personally hand her son his high school diploma. They both cried.

Danielle, the rest of the team from HomeCare Health and Hospice, and all her friends and family who went above and beyond to help out, thank you, you were a gift. Thank you for being such a bright light.

She is no doubt living it up with Don (who died on March 30th, 2021) and other loved ones now, but is survived by Skipper the Dog, her son Nate "Green Bean" Miller, Nate's dog Thor the "sweetie," Sarah "Whiz-bang" Miller-Baynham, her brother John, cousin Bill, lots of family and friends, and all who knew her. What a lucky path for us to have walked.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in the summer of 2024, to be determined. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family.  Please reach out to nate1721@uwalumni.com with any and all contact information.  In lieu of flowers, Jeanie would appreciate donations to Woodland Dunes, the Rahr-West Museum, the Donkey Sanctuary Ireland, or the World Wildlife Fund. When the garden is in full bloom, we'll raise a toast to Jeanie.
