Obituary

John J. Halverson, age 73, a Manitowoc resident, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at his home with his loving wife Tracy, his dogs, and other friends and family by his side.

He was born May 9, 1953, son of the late Russell and Alice (Kliment) Halverson. John attended and graduated from Mishicot High School. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. John had a total of 25 total years of service as active duty, Army Reserves, and with the Army Corp of Engineers. Following his service, he was employed with VanDerVart Concrete Products. John was an avid outdoorsman and had a passion for hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He loved spending time at his cabin in Pembine, Wisconsin. He was also a longtime AA member. John was a proud member of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 731, AMVETS Post 99, American Legion Post 88, and VFW Otto Oas Post 659, all of Manitowoc.

John is survived by his wife: Tracy Halverson; his three dogs: Boomer, Tuffy, and Junior; his sister: Mary Poitra; sister-in-law: Trina Hampel and her dog Joe; brother-in-law: Tom (Renee) Harrier, his niece: Heather (Buck) Hein, and their son Sean, and nephew: Josh Wilson (Megan Landsberg). Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law: Bill Poitra and Philip Gregory Hampel.

Cremation has occurred at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory, Manitowoc, and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, 628 N. Water Street, Manitowoc. There will be a Native American ceremony by John’s friends to honor his heritage. Military honors will be conducted by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 731. Following the service, a gathering for family and friends will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, located on the southside property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, Manitowoc.
