John Henry “Heimy” Heimerman, passed away August 22, 2026, at Meriter Hospital in Madison.
John was 51 years old and had struggled for years with his declining health but never lost his spark for fun with family and friends, whether that entailed watching professional sports, golfing, traveling, playing with his beloved dogs, or having a spirited conversation about the current topics of life. John was widely loved and admired for his wit and intelligence by his family, friends, and colleagues.
John, born May 1, 1975, is the son of Bruce and Debra (Baxter) Heimerman. John excelled in school and after high school attended college at the University of Minnesota, graduating Summa Com Laude with his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
John began his career at Epic as a project manager, traveling across the United States to assist large healthcare organizations successfully implement Epic software. One of many notable accomplishments that John achieved was being involved in Epic’s first hospital go-live installations, which was a significant milestone in Epic’s history. John was at Epic for more than 18 years, retiring early due to health issues. During his time at Epic, he made many lifetime friends who were added to the childhood friends with whom he stayed close throughout the years. From flannel shirts to suits, John made friends easily with his infectious smile, laugh and his humor.
John’s immediate family are his parents, Bruce and Debra Heimerman, brother Christopher, nieces Anna and Elise Heimerman, sister-in-law Dakota Heimerman (David) and his three four-legged family members Emma, Dash and Milli. His extended family is Stacy Wetenkamp, Tammy Wetenkamp and Jasmine Matejovetz. John is preceded in death by his grandparents and his beloved brother, David Heimerman.
A Life Celebration Social for family and friends will be held from 3 to 7 pm on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 North Water St., Manitowoc, located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the David “Heimy” Heimerman Memorial fund to help his wife Dakota Heimerman pay off David’s medical bills.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Cynthia Fiene and John Vesperman, who were with John in his final hours, and to the staff in the intensive care unit at Unity Point/Meriter Hospital for their excellent care, compassion and diligent attempts to seek possible solutions for John.
