John L.
Schmidt
July 15, 1937 – July 1, 2025
John "Jack" L. Schmidt passed away at his home on July 1, 2025, at age 87. He was born on July 15, 1937, in Valders to Elizabeth (Robinson) and Joseph Schmidt. He married Annie Nelson at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manitowoc on June 20, 1959.
Jack lived in Manitowoc and was a longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi - Marshall site (the old St. Mary's). The most important thing to him was spending time with his whole family – his kids, grandkids, and brothers; but he also loved cutting his lawn, feeding the birds, watching The Price Is Right and Packer's games, and shaking dice with his friends. He was always willing to lend a hand to his family and friends. After retiring from his career as a housepainter through his business, John Schmidt Painting, he actively volunteered at Peter's Pantry. He will be greatly missed by his family, but he will always be in our hearts.
Jack is survived by his children Sandy (Joe Shimek) Reichard, Tom Schmidt, Jodi (Ken) Schamburek, Amy Campbell, Pam (Mark) LeGreve, Jon (Charlene) Schmidt, and Jason (Mary-Kate O'Hara) Schmidt; many grandchildren including those he was especially close to: Patrick (Shaunda), Timothy, Daniel, Deah, Justin, Kristin, and Brandon; numerous great-grandchildren; brother Art Schmidt; sister-in-law Beverly Schmidt; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Annie; parents Joseph and Elizabeth; brothers Lloyl (Ruth), Donald (Mary Jane), Paul, Eugene (Betty) Schmidt; sisters Norma (Elroy) Behnke, Everilda (Charlie) Henkel, and MaryAnn (Ronald) Kuusisto; and sister-in-law Jean Schmidt.
Cremation has occurred at Harrigan Parkside Crematory Chapel. Relatives and friends may greet the family at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, 2109 Marshall St., Manitowoc, on his birthday, July 15, 2025, at 9:00AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00AM. A private burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the family.
